Following the dawn of the age of information, creative industry also grows exponentially. New software pops up left and right, creative-based educations are blossoming into one of the most interesting major in many universities. Creative industry is something that we NEED, it’s the thing that drives most business nowadays. Graphic designers are one major part of the industry, they’re the one who powers the gigantic, massive machines called the Creative Industry.
Working as a graphic designer really isn’t as glorified as people think it is. Looking blindly, graphic designers sure have it easy. They sit behind their fancy computers or mac, they are allowed to be as fashionable as they want, they even have the luxury to do business right from their very own comfortable home.
To be honest, it’s really one of the best jobs out there, but, behind their façade, being a graphic designer are really demanding and stressful since they need to stay consistently creative, always be updated with the current trends, have their work displayed and critiqued, and also they work with tight deadlines to compete with each other. Anything from a-z of problems and they also have clients to satisfy.
I want my order to be finished by tomorrow!
It’s just a picture, why is it so expensive!?
Those lines really are not so rare in the creative industry. Most people thought that the process of design was easy, fact is, it isn’t. Even the most veteran designer couldn’t come up with a million-dollar idea in one day.
The main problem in the creative industry is huge expectation toward the designers they hired followed by low consideration.
To create an idea needs process, it’s not exactly a walk in the park, it’s not a one-day or fast-paced job. Designer needs time to brainstorm, to get their mind in correct mindset, to make the result which is not only good but can be applied for a long time.
For what it’s worth, designers are not gods, they’re still humans who need food to eat and oxygen to breathe. When legit designers ask for a hefty sum for their service, trust me, they need it as much as we do. On top of managing time between deadlines and taking care of their daily necessities, designers also need to keep their mind sharp, to stay creative while searching for inspirations and paint those abstracts to what you need.
